The Northwest Arkansas Head Start Home-Based Program provides comprehensive Head Start services to 62 families in Madison County. Through the home-based option, families receive the same services as those participating in our center-based programs. While our center-based Head Start option focuses on the child in a classroom setting, the home-based option focuses on the family and the child in a home setting. Our staff, called “Home-Based Visitors” (5 total), have an opportunity to work with individuals within a family context and in the home environment. They help parents provide the developmental activities and support services that Head Start children would receive in the center-based option. Every other week we also provide a socialization day for the families and children to provide the socialization skills needed for the transition to kindergarten.  The socialization day is held at our Home Based Center in Huntsville.

Our Home-Based Program provides comprehensive services in education/child development, medical and dental health, nutrition, mental health, social services and parent involvement. Because the parent is considered a primary factor in the growth and development of their child, the Home-Based Visitors work intensively with the child’s parents and other family members. It is very important that the home visitor and the family form a strong working relationship and a trusting partnership.

Home-based visits consist of the following components:
  • Visits are conducted with the parents, not with babysitters or temporary caregivers.
  • Visits will help parents enhance their parenting skills and assist them in the use of their home as their child’s primary learning environment.
  • Visits will focus on helping parents learn how to provide learning opportunities that further their child’s growth and development.
  • The content of the visit is jointly planned by the parent and the home visitor.

All staff at the Northwest Arkansas Head Start Huntsville Home Based location focus on providing high quality educational and family services to the families of Madison County. Parents choose our program when they want the benefits of the Head Start program with a special one on one teacher to student ratio which can only be found through a home based option. Thank you for visiting the NWA Head Start Home Based page. We are currently accepting enrollment  applications from 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday at our offices in Huntsville.  If you need directions, please use the map links or contact information above.  You may also conveniently download the enrollment application on this web site be clicking here.

    Door Entry Security

kes_02.jpgOur Keyless Entry System limits access to our Head Start centers by allowing entry only to authorized staff and families. Unique ID codes are assigned to each person. Codes may be disabled at any time providing a safe, secure environment for children and peace of mind for parents. Our system keeps a live record of who enters our buildings allowing us to monitor building access in real time or by printing a daily log. Each ID code may also be placed on a restricted list directly from our center computer.
